Congratulations on taking the first step in your career to becoming an active duty Air Force Officer.
To be eligible to join AFROTC Det 028, each cadet must meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University or Yavapai College.
- Be a U.S. citizen after freshman year.
- Be in good physical condition (cadets must pass the Fitness Assessment).
- Be of good moral character.
- Attend both the Aerospace Studies class and Leadership Lab each semester.
Fitness Assessment (FA)
The FA is taken every fall and spring term while a cadet is enrolled in Air Force ROTC. Cadets in the General Military Course (GMC) or not on a scholarship must attempt the test but do not have to pass. Scholarship cadets and cadets in the Professional Officer Course (POC) must pass the test each fall and spring term.
The FA is composed of three events in the following order:
- Sit-ups
- Push-ups
- 1.5-mile run
All events must be completed, with a short rest period between each event. The minimum score is 75 points, and all minimums must be met.
Height and Weight
The Air Force has standards with maximum weight for your height. If you are heavier than allowed for your height, you will undergo a process called taping. This consists of a neck and waist measurement to calculate your body fat percentage. You can do this at home with this calculator. The maximum allowable body fat for men is 18%, and the maximum for females is 26%. You will need to be within these regulations at some point in the first two years of your AFROTC career. You can access height and weight standards here.
If you would like to join Detachment 028 in the fall semester, your journey may begin with Zero Week. Zero Week takes place in the days leading up to fall orientation. If you cannot attend Zero Week, you are still encouraged to join. Zero Week is an opportunity to jumpstart your Air Force career, but it is not required for success.
