The Financial Aid Office does not determine eligibility for ROTC scholarships or Veteran benefits, however, we want to share essential information to help you navigate these resources.

ROTC Scholarships

What is ROTC?

ROTC is a program offered at many colleges and universities across the United States, including our own campus. It provides students with the chance to combine their college education with military training, preparing them for future leadership roles in the armed forces. ROTC also offers scholarships for students who commit to serve in the military.

How does an ROTC scholarship impact other types of financial aid?

If you are an ROTC scholarship recipient, adjustments may occur to previously offered financial aid. Aid may be reduced or canceled according to the aid program criteria:

  • ROTC scholarships, when combined with Institutional Funded Scholarships (IFS), federal and state aid, and external scholarships, may not exceed the cost of attendance (or student budget).
  • View estimated costs for the Prescott Campus. If you are living on campus, your housing budget may be increased to the actual charged amount.
  • ROTC scholarships and Institutional Funded Scholarships may not be used for flight costs.
  • Institutional Funded Scholarships will be reinstated if your ROTC scholarship is canceled.
  • Each student's situation is unique, and adjustments vary due to differences in degree programs, grade level, awarded IFS, financial need, annual and lifetime limits on aid programs, and other factors.
  • Please contact the Financial Aid Office at prfinaid@erau.edu or call 928-777-3765 if you have questions regarding financial aid adjustments.

What costs do ROTC scholarships not cover?

ROTC will not cover:

  • Increased costs for a higher meal plan
  • Flight costs
  • Health insurance coverage for all branches, with the exception of Army ROTC

Notification of ROTC Scholarships to ERAU Departments

Your ROTC detachment will notify Student Financial Services and the Financial Aid Office of the value of your ROTC scholarship prior to the start of each semester. This generally occurs just before the Fee Payment Deadline (August for fall; January for spring).

You must pay any charges not covered by ROTC and financial aid, or enroll in the ERAU Payment Plan on ERNIE, by the Fee Payment Deadline each term.

Veterans’ Benefits

What are Veterans’ Benefits?

Veterans' benefits (VA Benefits) refer to the various programs, services and financial assistance provided by the government to individuals who have served in the military. These benefits are designed to support veterans in different aspects of their lives, including education, healthcare, housing, employment and more.

The specific benefits available can vary based on factors such as the length of military service, discharge status and service-connected disabilities. Some benefits also may be transferred to dependents and spouses if not used by the initial recipient.

How do I begin receiving VA Benefits at ERAU?

Apply as soon as the admission process is started but no later than 30 days prior to the start of classes to avoid delays. If you are a veteran, or a spouse or dependent of a veteran, follow the steps below:

  1. Complete the Application for VA Education Benefits on the VA website. The VA will determine your eligibility and mail a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to you in 30-45 days.

  2. Once you receive your COE, send a copy to the Prescott Veterans Program Administrator, Monika Reyes. The COE provides us with the type of educational benefits you are eligible for and the length of time you will have these benefits.

    Email: reyesm12@erau.edu
    Fax: 928-777-3893
In-Person: Veterans Student Resource Center (VSRC), Building 18
Mail: ERAU VA Office, 3700 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301

The VA will mail you an updated COE every semester. You may also print a copy from www.va.gov. You are required to submit an updated COE to the Prescott Veterans Affairs Office before each semester starts.

  3. Submit the VA Student Registration Intention Form each semester (fall and spring, or summer). This informs the university that you intend to use your VA benefits.
What costs will the VA cover at ERAU?

The VA will only cover the following charges on your university account:

  • Tuition
  • Mandatory fees
  • Health insurance
  • Graduation fee

How aid be impacted if I receive Chapter 33 - 100% Yellow Ribbon Benefits?

  • Adjustments may occur to previously offered financial aid; it may be reduced or canceled according to the aid program criteria.
  • 100% Yellow Ribbon recipients are not eligible for Institutional Funded Scholarships (IFS). However, IFS will be reinstated if your VA benefits are exhausted.
  • IFS may be prorated if you have “limited” benefits available during a given semester.
  • The Yellow Ribbon program will cover any unmet tuition charges for the Spring semester if VA benefits are exhausted.

How will my financial aid be impacted if I am receiving less than 100% VA benefits?

  • Adjustments may occur to previously offered financial aid; it may be reduced or canceled according to the aid program criteria.
  • Limited VA benefits, when combined with Institutional Funded Scholarships (IFS), ERAU Donor-Funded Scholarships, federal and state aid, and external scholarships, may not exceed the cost of attendance (or student budget).
