Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is scholarly inquiry into student learning which advances the practice of teaching by making research findings public.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) uses methods such as discovery, reflection and analysis, interviews and focus groups, questionnaires and surveys, and many other methods to research effective teaching and student learning. These findings are peer reviewed and publicly disseminated in an ongoing cycle of systematic inquiry into classroom practices.

SoTL builds upon many past traditions including classroom and program assessment, K-12 action research, the reflective practice movement, peer review of teaching, traditional educational research, and faculty development efforts to enhance teaching and learning.
