The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott campus Women’s Volleyball Team wrapped up a successful season, finishing third overall in conference play and garnering special recognitions for two of its athletes.

For the first time in program history, and as a direct result of regular season results, the team qualified for post-season conference play. The Eagles entered the 2010 Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Tournament ranked fourth. They finished the conference ranked third.

Freshman Setter Morgan Vieira, an aerospace engineering major from Las Vegas, Nev., and Sophomore Outside Hitter Mahlet Lee, a mechanical engineering major from Downey, Calif., were both named A.I.I. First Team All Conference Members and each were also named to the 2010 A.I.I. All Tournament Team. Vieira was the only setter selected for these honors.

Additionally, Lee received an honorable mention recognition to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) MidSouth All-Region Team, a region which includes in the vicinity of a dozen National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) teams. One of eight athletes chosen for this honor, Mahlet is the first athlete in the history of the Embry-Riddle Prescott Volleyball Program to have received such recognition.

Based on an athlete’s season-long athletic accomplishments and significant contributions to their team’s success, Coach Katy McCormick-Meyer said, “This is incredibly exciting for our program. It is another element in confidence building where our skills on the court are concerned.” Coach Meyer went on to say, “It’s an honor to receive and an honor to coach these young women."
