Embry-Riddle Prescott Offers Short-Course

The Professional Programs Office of the College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will host a five-day Center for Aerospace Safety/Security Education (CASE) short-course in aircraft accident investigation in a professional and dynamic classroom environment at the Prescott, Ariz. campus. Participants will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for successful completion.


Advanced Aircraft Accident Investigation and Management
Course Dates: May 9-13, 2011
Location: Prescott Campus, Arizona
This course introduces the participant to advanced accident investigation procedures involving design, materials, and aircraft performance. Participants will analyze various mechanical and structural factors and loads on an airplane, as well as be introduced to investigating composite materials, advanced fire investigation, and avionics. Extensive use will be made of crash laboratory simulated accident scenario exercises, and case examples will help participants identify, collect, and analyze data in the process of determining probable cause/s.


About the Instructor:
William D. Waldock holds the rank of Professor of Safety Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus.  He is the creator of the aviation safety programs at Embry-Riddle and has spent the last 29 years developing and enhancing the academic safety endeavors here.  He is a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer, a pilot, and has been investigating accidents for more than three decades, participating in more than 200 aircraft investigations. He is President of the Arizona Chapter, International Society of Air Safety Investigators, and has written numerous articles on aviation safety, aircraft accidents, and crash survivability. He is a Fellow in the American College of Forensic Examiners and member of numerous other aviation and safety-related organizations. Prof. Waldock has appeared in numerous safety-themed video programs and has been an expert consultant to both the print and electronic media.
