Embry-Riddle Engineering Student Receives Prestigious International Aviation Internship

This summer, Cory Ravetto, an aerospace engineering student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Ariz., campus, will spend five weeks in France, working and learning at Daher-Socata, one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers. The senior from Bigfork, Mont., is one of two recipients of a prestigious scholarship awarded by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and Socata.

Recipients receive a five-week internship at Socata’s facility in Tarbes, France, located in the shadow of the Pyrenees Mountains, followed by a week at the EAA Air Academy in Oshkosh, Wis., where they will help Socata during EAA’s AirVenture 2010. All travel, lodging, and work experience is included, as well as a side trip to the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France.

“This opportunity with EAA gives a one-of-a-kind experience for these internship recipients,” said Nicolas Chabbert, president of Socata North America. “They will spend some time with us in their field of choice, such as marketing, production, organization, design, support, or service.”

“I started flying at age 13 and aircraft have always fascinated me” said Ravetto, who wants to design aircraft or spacecraft control systems after he graduates from Embry-Riddle. “Working with Socata this summer will provide me with excellent real-world engineering experiences in aircraft design and manufacturing.”

Ravetto was encouraged to apply for the internship by fellow Embry-Riddle student Karl Parsons, who was awarded the scholarship last year.

The other recipient of this year’s EAA/Daher-Socata scholarship is Kylie Fencil of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., a student at Fox Valley Technical College in Grand Chute, Wis.

One of the world’s leading general aviation manufacturers with more than 17,000 aircraft built since 1911, Socata forms the aerospace branch of the Daher Group, a European integrated equipment and services supplier. Daher also specializes in three other sectors: nuclear, defense, and industries, and is developing expertise in manufacturing, services, and transport.

EAA embodies the spirit of aviation through the world’s most engaged community of aviation enthusiasts. EAA’s 160,000 members and 1,000 local chapters enjoy the fun and camaraderie of sharing their passion for flying, building, and restoring recreational aircraft. For more information, call (800) 564-6322 or go to www.eaa.org.
