From Keiwa to Embry-Riddle 6 students journey from Japan

ERAU's Foreign Language Institute Hosts Japanese Students
Prescott, Az., July 25, 2009 - Embry-Riddle's Foreign Language Institute has welcomed six students from Keiwa College to the Prescott community for an accelerated culture and language exchange program. The students are staying on campus for part of the summer to participate in the American Culture and Language Program (ACLP). The students take English language classes in the morning to learn English composition, speech, communication, and western American culture.
The six students come from an area on the northeastern edge of the Niigata Plain that is traditionally regarded as the "back country" of Japan. This area is famous for rice production. The Keiwa College campus surrounded by mountains and lush rice fields enjoys the best of semi-rural Japanese scenery and old Japan's rural charm and history.
During the past few weeks, the students have been immersed in the American culture and have participated in numerous campus and community activities. The students have a full schedule of classes, volunteer activities, storytelling, visiting local schools, traveling, presentations, and studying. In addition to the cultural exchange activities like shopping at Wal-Mart, major league baseball game, and visiting the Grand Canyon the students have traveled to the Native American reservation and have visited historic sites.
The Foreign language Institute encompasses an intensive language immersion for students seeking careers in the global environment of politics and economic issues. Prescott Campus leaders for this program include Professor Dr. Shigeo Hayashibara, Professor Doug Magrath and Professor Hong Zhan.
