Overview

The Ph.D. in Aviation will allow students to pursue interests in aviation in a diverse, intellectually versatile and multi-disciplinary environment, and to effect a global impact on the aviation industry and discipline. It is the only Ph.D. in Aviation in the nation and may be completed in as few as three years.

The curriculum is designed to enable working professionals and aviation enthusiasts an innovative way to achieve their personal, educational and professional goals. Our program is flexible and provides meaningful educational and scholarly preparation for the aviation field.

Courses are offered online, for greater accessibility with practical schedules for the working professional. You may take courses from anywhere in the world.

Three six-day residencies are required. Residencies are offered each August on a campus site.

Enrollments in the Ph.D. in Aviation program will be highly selective.

Advantages

Embry-Riddle's Ph.D. in Aviation is a flexible degree program, in that it is offered primarily online but includes three six-day residencies at designated campuses. The degree is open to aviation professionals including flight crew members, air traffic controllers, industry technical representatives, aviation educators, government employees and others wishing to advance their knowledge and enhance their careers with a Ph.D. in Aviation.

Dr. Brady is a Professor in the Department of Doctoral Studies and Dean of the College of Aviation, at the Daytona Beach Campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In this position, he is responsible for the academic and administrative leadership of the college.

Dr. Esser was a member of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Flight Department from 1981 to 1995, and has been a member of the Aeronautical Science Department since that time.

Dr. Steven Hampton is an Associate Dean Research, of the College of Aviation at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Dr. Hampton was a member of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Flight Department from 1974 to 1995, and has been a member of the Aeronautical Science Department since that time.

Dr. Smith joined Embry-Riddle as an adjunct Assistant Professor in 1999, then joined the Daytona Beach campus as an Assistant Professor in 2012. She has taught the Research Methods course and the Master's Thesis course at the Worldwide and Daytona Beach campus.
