All business students participate in an experiential faculty-mentored student consulting project as a requirement in their capstone Strategic Management and Consulting course. Multiple consulting opportunities are available with some students completing 2-3 consulting jobs, with actual clients in public, private and/or non-profit sectors during their time as a student at ERAU-Prescott.
These consulting projects equip students to contribute their education and expertise in situations where they must rely on influence, rather than managerial control, to impact an organization. Their ability to define problems and present workable solutions such as a business model canvas or strategic management plan is developed as they respond to various client needs. The goal is to give students a real-world perspective of how business professionals solve problems. After the consulting project, students understand performance expectations and job opportunities in fields such as consulting that require a great deal of problem solving. A student who successfully completes a consulting project has a significant advantage in interviewing with a consulting company for employment opportunities.
These are not controlled “case studies” but an opportunity to work with real businesses. Student teams operate independently with minimum faculty involvement to solve real business problems in a real-world setting.
