Toys in space

Sat. November 7, 2009, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Toys are fun to play with here on Earth, but do they work the same in space? Join us for an investigation as we see how a selection of toys operates in 1 g (Earth's gravity) and then in the microgravity environment of space. Several of these toys are easy to make in the classroom, so you can really get your students involved!

Presented by: Miranda Martin, NASA MSFC ERC, AL

Earth in the environment of the sun: Heliophysics - The ultimate border control

Sat. December 12, 2009, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Learn about NASA missions exploring the environment of the sun and activities and multimedia resources explaining space weather, sun-earth connections and solar basics that you can use to engage your students in understanding our SOLAR system.

Presented by: Stacy DeVeau, Arizona ERC

Exploring microgravity

Sat. January 30, 2010, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
What could be more exciting and fun than floating around in microgravity? Come understand the science and mathematics of microgravity, discover related classroom activities and materials and learn about student experiments that have flown on NASA's Reduced Gravity Aircraft.

Presented by: Jim Christensen, Iowa ERC

NASA exploration Toolkits

Sat. February 27, 2010, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
NASA's Aerospace Education Services Project provides online Toolkits related to NASA themes. The Toolkits provide rich collections of NASA-themed curricula, activities, visualizations, videos, datasets and other materials, as well as evaluative notes and suggestions for using and adapting the materials in K-12 classrooms. This workshop introduces the Lunar and Solar Exploration Toolkits.

Presented by: Lindsey B. Keith-Vincent, Louisiana ERC

NASA educational Podcasts in the classroom

Sat. March 13, 2010, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Learn how to locate, download, manage and use NASA podcasts in the classroom while dispelling all myths and misconceptions about podcasts. Clear skies ahead: Clearing up the confusion on clouds

Sat. April 17, 2010, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Does teaching about clouds make you feel ominous and overcast? By incorporating classifications and simple dichotomous keys, your confusion over clouds will evaporate away! Learn about the science of clouds and how your students can report cloud observations through NASA’s S'COOL or GLOBE Programs.

Presented by: Todd Ensign, NASA IV&V ERC, WV and Dr. Tina Cartwright, Marshall University, WV

Discover the universe with Galileo

Sat. May 8, 2010, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Learn about discoveries Galileo made using a telescope 400 years ago and how you can bring Galilean astronomy alive for your students. This workshop will introduce the "Galileoscope," an extremely inexpensive recreation of the quality of Galileo's telescope, and will cover how telescopes work and observations anyone can make in the night sky.
