Chemistry Lab

The Chemistry Laboratory includes 18 dedicated workstations and two fume hoods for student use. Laboratory instruments include desktop computers and printers, electronic balances, visible spectrophotometers, centrifuges, pH meters, and DC power supplies. Laboratory supplies include a full complement of burets, pipets, flasks, beakers, test tubes, Bunsen burners, and ring stands.

The Chemistry Laboratory includes 18 dedicated workstations and two fume hoods for student use. Laboratory instruments include desktop computers and printers, electronic balances, visible spectrophotometers, centrifuges, pH meters, and DC power supplies. Laboratory supplies include a full complement of burets, pipets, flasks, beakers, test tubes, Bunsen burners, and ring stands.  Experiments are designed to be both qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative experiments usually involve performing a large number of chemical reactions and learning to interpret what is observed as the reactions take place. Quantitative experiments involve collecting numerical data and learning how to perform chemical calculations and to make sense of the results. The laboratory computers may be used to perform data analyses and to print results. Altogether, the laboratory is used to support five chemistry courses: first and second semester general chemistry, first and second semester organic chemistry, and biochemistry.
